Back to School

I decided it was time to go back to school today...but let's be honest I had a hard time being motivated with this plan this morning when it was time to actually do it! 

I am moving to a new classroom and technically a new grade level this year so I have a LOT of work to do. This is what I have to work with. I am sticking with my sports theme this year so that should help but I'm just not sure what layout I want this year. 

So today I just worked on cleaning out cabinets and wiping down shelves while I thought about my plan for the room...still not sure what I want to do but I'm sure the finished product will be great (or mostly great).

Back in Ohio

Well...the great Hawaii trip is over. I guess that means I am back to reality. It is also the end of July which means...school is dangerously close and I have yet to step foot into my classroom. The brand new I just moved into it classroom (also known as lots of work needed - eek). Also an eek is this class I signed up for. I need to spend 100 hours on a school based project. I started strong but am NOT finishing strong. I need to get to work. Good thing is I can pair the two up. 

I just want more summer. Anyone else feel that way?!?

So I'm enjoying Hawaii on our Honeymoon though I wish I would have been able to make the TPT conference in Vegas (hubs and I looooooove Vegas). But we are in a rental hubs is driving so here it is a picture from our resort on the Big Island. So pretty. 

Ohio Meet Up

I am very excited to have had a wonderful vacation/honeymoon in Hawaii with my husband. It was amazing and I'll be sure to include some photos.

I am also excited to have made connections with some Ohio (mostly central Ohio) TpT'ers and we will be getting together to chat and share.

I can't wait!

New Room

I've been fighting the urge to go into school for the last four weeks. I'm moving rooms for my new position and I want to be proactive this year with getting my room ready. But also who really wants to sit in a warm classroom during summer break. 

Really I just need to get some of this school stuff out of my house before the husband gets angry. 

I think I may at least stop in. Hmm. 

All About Me

Welcome to Laughing In Second! 

I am going into my first year of teaching second grade for the 2014-2015 school year. I've taught second grade before but never in my own classroom. I graduated in 2006 from Bowling Green State University. I substitute taught for three years (including 2 long term substitute positions). I then spent a year full-time as a title I teacher. Due to funding and a building closure my position was eliminated. I went back to subbing. I then got a half-time position teaching Title I for 4th grade. It wasn't so bad because I was going back to school at the time. Then the man I was dating (now my husband) took a transfer for work and I moved with him to Columbus. I got a job as an educational assistant that luckily turned into a long term substitute teaching position. This past year I was an intervention specialist for a special education unit. Now I am headed to second grade!

I am licensed to teach lots of things so I hope my knowledge will help me with second grade and with blogging and other things. I have a license for PK-3, 4/5 endorsement, Gifted K-12 and Intervention Specialist (Mild/Mod) K-12.

Speaking of the husband. I just got married this June and have a husband and two stepsons who keep me very busy. We leave for Hawaii next week for our honeymoon :)
